Settings overhaul for ease of use

TimeForge is a platform for managing a business’s labor, from employee scheduling to attendance tracking to sales reporting and more. This means a user has to comb through over 300 settings when they want to tailor rules to their business. These settings pages had grown very large, intimidating, and cumbersome for both users and customer support.

I started first by understanding some general insights for opportunities, like who changes settings, how often, how long does it take them, and stats on support tickets. From there, I partnered with the customer support team on organizing and grouping settings into different arrangements.

The final design was structured with logical sections, with clear labels, to improve scanning. The settings configuration was changed to make it more visually distinct between ON and OFF states. Some internal testing showed the new design decreased the time for finding a specific setting from about 1 minute to 12 seconds.
